Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise, and Engelbert Humperdinck might be considered as the alpha males of yesterday due to their all-macho look. But fast forward into the present-day and that’s not anymore the case.
Not that we’re talking about these iconic legends, but because a man’s attractiveness isn’t anymore depending mostly on their muscle, or shall we say, abs.
As funny as it seems, that’s a fact. And that we’ve come to a whole new standard of what many of today would consider as a hilarious reality — dad bod.
Dad bod is an adjective used to describe men who are slightly beyond fit and have tummies that are, well, bulging.
But is it the new macho? Well, here’s what we have to say:
Symbol of the New ‘Urban’ Lifestyle
In simpler words, yes, having dad bod has become the standard of today, not because it looks nice and awe-inspiring, but because many men have that kind of body now. This is mainly caused by the urban lifestyle that we have today.
Fastfood and a more inactive lifestyle are the two main causes of this. Eating too much fast food such as burgers, fries, and pizza gives men extra unneeded fats.
We also just spend most of our time sitting on our office chair, or if it’s the weekend, sitting on the couch while doing Netflix and Chill.
More Work, Less Play
Men are busier these days compared to the men before. Most want to become full-fledged entrepreneurs that they sit down in front of their screens and become a social media influencer of some sort, or if not, dwell on their e-commerce shops.
Meanwhile, those in the corporate world are becoming more in-tuned with their daily work routine where they, well, still sit in front of their computers, and do paperwork. And if it’s a holiday or the weekends, we just sit all day watching TV or just sleep.
It sure is an exciting time to be alive, eh?
Standards change, and whether we like it or not, this happens. And now, it’s about how men should look. Not that we’re advocating an unhealthy physical appearance, because by no means is a dad bod unhealthy.
It’s just that we men, have other priorities, other than to just work out in the gym and be too picky and conscious about our biceps and abs.
